What are the steps to clean your home’s interior in the spring?

Spring is the season of renewal for everyone! Nature is budding, animals are coming out of hibernation or returning home, the days are slowly getting longer, and temperatures are starting to rise. So, open your windows wide, breathe in the fresh air and get to work, because spring means a full house cleaning!

Planning is key

Organization and planning are the keys to success. Be sure to list all your rooms on a sheet of paper and assign specific cleaning tasks to them. Put a plan of action in place and give yourself deadlines for completing your cleaning. Consider starting from the top to the bottom of your home and apply this rule when cleaning your rooms as well, this will save you time and avoid going over the same area twice.

Do a deep clean

Declutter each room by emptying your closets, cupboards and drawers and putting their contents into three piles; one to keep, one to donate or sell, and one to throw away. For example, in your closet, go through all your clothes and if you haven’t worn an item in at least two years, it is time to get used to the idea that you will have to get rid of it. The space you create will allow you to go on a well-deserved shopping spree to reward yourself for all your cleaning efforts. If you have children, ask them to choose the toys they really want to keep and those they no longer play with can be given to other family members, for example. Clean out and store any winter clothes and equipment that can still be used in the basement or your garage for the next winter season.

Now get cleaning

Once you have decluttered each room, it is time to clean them from top to bottom. Bring rags, microfibre cloths are the best for dusting, and effective, yet biodegradable products that will be gentle on the family and the environment.  Remember the rule mentioned above and start with the cobwebs on the ceiling, the ceiling light, the door frames and continue methodically to the floor, so that the dust will not fall on something you have already cleaned. Use the same principle for washing your windows and mirrors, start at the top and end at the bottom, as cleaning fluids also follow gravity.

Once all your rooms are free of dust and dirt, clean your floors by vacuuming them first and then mopping them loosely for areas that don’t have carpets. If you have a lot of carpets or rugs, consider professional cleaning, especially if they have not been cleaned in at least a year. Remember that carpets and rugs are real nests for bacteria and allergens and that vacuuming them daily only removes surface dust.

Contact professional cleaners

If all these tedious tasks seem insurmountable to you, then it is recommended to source a team of professional cleaners who will make your spring cleaning one less hassle to overcome. Ask a specialized company for an estimate for the work you would like them to undertake. That way you can enjoy the spring season without any worry or hassle.
