That said, the first thing to do when you discover a blood stain is to make sure to tackle it before it dries. For this, rinse the area affected thoroughly with cold water to dilute the blood, then use a little bit of liquid laundry detergent and rub the stain gently with your fingers to form a foam. Rinse again.
Instead of laundry detergent, you can find an effective and inexpensive cleaning method in your pharmacy! Crush one or two aspirins in a glass of water and rub the stain with a soaked cloth, sponge or small soft brush. Finally, rinse liberally and absorb as much moisture as possible by blotting thoroughly if you are treating a piece of furniture or other object that cannot be placed in the washer.
Hydrogen peroxide is also well known for fighting stains, whatever they may be, but did you know that it is your best ally against blood stains? Not only does this liquid have disinfectant properties, but when used on a clean cloth, it will overcome your stain.
Another inexpensive and effective product is baking soda. This magic “go to” powder when mixed with a little water to form a paste and applied on the blood stain will give you in a few minutes an unexpected result. Simply rinse with clean water to reveal a clean, sanitized surface. For your mattresses, dab the stain with a moistened washcloth, sprinkle a generous layer of bicarbonate of soda and let dry for at least an hour. Remove the product with a soft brush, and if necessary, repeat the operation.
You can also try another product that you will surely find in your kitchen, white vinegar! Soak a clean cloth with it and gently rub the blood stain. Leave on for a few minutes, then rinse with cold water. Continuing on a culinary path, lemon juice is also an effective remedy against blood stains and in addition, it is 100% natural! Whether freshly squeezed or bottled, it can do wonders especially if you add a little sunshine. And yes, the reaction of the lemon juice to the rays of our dear star causes this duo to whiten the most recalcitrant stains.
If all these home cleaning methods fail, it is strongly recommended to source a cleaning company specialized in treating blood stains, especially if they are present on your mattress, upholstered furniture, or carpets. Any specialist worthy of the name will offer you a method of steam cleaning and will use high performance and powerful products.
