How to clean your patio furniture?

Whether it is plastic chairs, a wooden table or a metal stool, our patio furniture is often subjected to the elements. Fortunately, there are some simple tips on how to clean them effectively. In this article, we explain how to clean your patio furniture so you can enjoy your summer to the fullest.

Don’t Panic

Patio furniture is designed to be resistant to the outdoor elements, such as wind, rain, sun, moisture and other harsh agents. However, some furniture may have been left outside for too long and may have developed stubborn stains, dirt and yellowing. Don’t worry! With a little effort and know-how, you can restore your outdoor furniture to its original appearance. Whether your furniture is made of plastic, exotic wood, metal, resin or fabric, there are inexpensive and effective ways to give it a second life.

Use Baking Soda to Clean Plastic

White plastic chairs and tables tend to yellow when exposed to the sun for too long. Moisture can also cause them to mildew. Baking soda is an effective solution to restore plastic to its original color without damaging it and also to eliminate any mold or mildew. To use it, simply sprinkle some of this white powder (available in the salt and spice section of grocery stores rather than the detergent section) on a sponge soaked in vinegar. Another useful product is clay stone, which can be used with a damp sponge before rinsing. Clay stone is a natural and environmentally friendly product that is not expensive and can be used to clean the entire house. Made of white clay, black soap and water, it is very effective in removing stubborn stains from surfaces such as ceramic, stainless steel, tile or plastic.

Woven Resin Patio Furniture

Woven resin furniture is highly sought after, but just like its plastic counterparts, it can show signs of mildew. This is especially true of woven resins, which tend to accumulate mold in their many crevices.

Fortunately, there are several simple solutions for cleaning this furniture. You can use black soap or Marseille soap with a soft sponge. You can also opt for a pressure washer to remove the dirt embedded in the weaves of your chairs.

Wooden Furniture

Wooden furniture, especially non-exotic wood, has a tendency to crack on the surface due to temperature and humidity variations. In addition, it can become tarnished. It is therefore important to maintain them well!

Here’s a solution: for woods such as pine, you can use a hard brush and Marseille soap to clean them and remove mold. Then, sand lightly and apply a coat of waterproofing protector. For a less aggressive cleaning, simply use a soft brush and soap.

Cushions

When cleaning your patio furniture cushions, it is recommended that you leave them to professional cleaners. You could inadvertently shrink them or even inflict irreparable stains. Some companies will pick up your furniture at home and return it to you looking clean and fresh. After all, why not enjoy your summer to the fullest without one more cleaning chore?
